About Bwindi Forest
Located in south western Uganda, 500.5 kilometers from Kampala, Bwindi Forest is a UNESCO heritage sites, the home to the endangered mountain gorillas. The park was garzetted in 1991 but opened for tourism in 1993. Bwindi forest comprise of 4 sectors which are Buhoma, Nkuringo, Rushaga and Ruhija. Over 20 gorilla families ie Habinyanja, Rushegura, Mubare, Nkuiringo, Oruzogo, Bweza, Busingye, Kutu, Rwigi, Kyaguliro and Bushaho among others
Each gorilla permit in Bwindi costs $700 allowing you to spend an our with the gorillas. You can also do gorilla habituation experience ta $1500 allowing you four hours with the endangered gorillas. Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Pick up & transfer to Kibale Forest National Park
In the early morning, our driver-guide will pick you up from Entebbe airport of your hotel in Kampala and setoff to Kibale Forest National park. Have a stopover at Nakayima spiritual tree in Mubende driving through tea plantations to Fort portal for lunch. Thereafter, proceed to Kibale Forest, the primate capital in Africa. Dinner and overnight stay at Primates Lodge/ Chimpanzee forest guest house/ Kibale Forest Camp
Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking & Bigodi wetland walk
Today you wake up early, have breakfast and with your packed lunch transfer to Kanyanchu information Centre for registration and briefing about the rules and regulations of chimpanzee trekking. at 8:00am, start off the hike to meet the endangered chimpanzees. The loud shouts and laughs of chimpanzees for a distance gives you a direction to take. Pend an hour with chimpanzees, learn about their lifestyles, take photos and have fun with your close relatives.
The forest is also home to other 12 primates, which include white and black colobus, red-tailed monkeys, baboons, vervet monkeys, and blue monkeys, which you stand high chances of seeing. In the evening, go for a nature walk in Bigodi wetland sanctuary for bird watching and also rewets you with a fresh feeling of a natural environment. Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi Forest National park
Wakeup on a cup of coffee, check out of the lodge and depart for Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National park. The 7 hours scenic drive via fort portal Mbarara road with great views of green tea and banana plantation, farms and endless rolling hills is worth it. Dinner and overnight stay at Mahogany springs lodge/ Bwindi Forest Camp
Day 4: Mountain gorilla trekking & Batwa visits
In the early morning, have breakfast and wish your paced lunch transfer to Bwindi park headquarters for registration and briefing about gorilla trekking. The trek to meet gorillas starts at 8:00 am taking 30 minutes to 8 hours depending on where gorillas will be located that day.
The good thing is that you are 99.9% sure of meeting gorillas. Spend an hour with a gorilla family, observe their human-like characters, take photos, capture videos and enjoy their company. In the evening if time allows, visit Batwa pygmies for a cultural performance and also learn about Batwa’s traditional forest life and how they co-existed with wild animals in the forests.
Day 5: Departure
After breakfast, checkout of the lodge and transfer to the respective airport, Kigali or Entebbe for your connecting flight
