This itinerary allows you to experience the unique biodiversity of Mabamba Swamp, especially focusing on the iconic Shoebill stork, while also enjoying the natural beauty of Uganda’s wetlands. The 1-day tour to Mabamba Swamp typically starts early in the morning from Kampala or Entebbe, as the swamp is about 50 kilometers west of Kampala. An inclusion of Mabamba wetland on your Uganda safaris makes a complete Uganda safari package!

Here are the details;

Leave Kampala/Entebbe early (around 6-7 AM) to reach Mabamba Swamp by 8-9 AM, depending on traffic and road conditions. Upon arrival at the swamp, embark on a guided boat ride. These boats are equipped to navigate through the channels and papyrus reeds where the Shoebill storks are often found. Spend the morning watching birds and specifically looking for the Shoebill stork. Besides the Shoebill, Mabamba Swamp hosts over 260 bird species, including African jacana, malachite kingfisher, pied kingfisher, and various herons and egrets.
